Hawaii Residents and the Affordable Care Act

An interesting report on the Affordable Care Act has recently emerged, courtesy of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Prospective Maui home owners may be interested to know that so far, Hawaii is one of the smallest markets for the tax credits, along with Delaware, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.

Topping the list were Texas with 2 million, California with 1.9 million and Florida with 1.6 million people who qualify. There were about 17.2 million people eligible nationwide. These states are more populous than Hawaii in general, but it’s still important if you are still learning about what to expect if you move here and buy Maui real estate.

As for the delays that have been all over the news, Hawaii’s state-run health-insurance exchange, the Hawaii Health Connector, was supposed to be functional by October 1st, but software issues slowed things down. The site was functional as of October 15th.

Hopefully, this blog has been informative. If you need assistance with your Maui home search, you’ll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. Mahalo!
