Making the Move to Maui

If you’ve recently made the decision to purchase Maui real estate and live here permanently, then we’re sure you have a lot of planning on your mind, especially if you live in one of the other states. Moving from one state to another is challenging enough when you don’t have to cross an ocean. In this case, you do. On that note, we have some suggestions that will streamline your moving process.

1. Use trash bags, and collect boxes. Boxes are obvious, but we recommend collecting them before you move so you don’t have to purchase so many. Sometimes the cost of boxes can really add up. As for bags, not everyone realizes that heavy duty trash bags can be used not only to throw away what’s left over at the end of your move, but also for storing soft items like clothes, blankets, sheets, towels, etc. Using trash bags for this purpose is ideal if you will be renting a shipping container. You can use twist ties to secure bags, and use different colors to signify which room they belong in.

2. Have colored markers for boxes. In conjunction with black markers, use colored ones for the same purpose as the colored twist tie. Use the black for describing the contents of each box, and a colored circle or square to indicate which room it should go to. It may seem like too much trouble, but you’ll be glad you did it. In the long run, it will save you time and effort.

3. Have scissors and lots of tape. Make sure you have more than one pair of scissors if more than one person is doing the packing. As for tape, always buy extra. It runs out faster than you might expect, and it can be very frustrating to end up with less than you need, especially if you are almost out of time.

4. Use newspaper for packing. Buying packing materials like kernels or paper can be surprisingly expensive, especially when all you have to do is save newspaper for the exact same purpose. This is also a great way to reuse a material that you would have thrown out anyway.

5. Leave your cleaning supplies for the end. If you are bringing any of your cleaning tools with you, pack them last so you can use them if you need to tidy up before you leave.

We hope these have been helpful suggestions for you, and that it has helped you come up with some of your own strategies for your move to Maui. If you need assistance with real estate, you’ll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. Good luck, and mahalo for reading this week!
